J13 is Durban’s full time Gay venue. The venue was born out of a demand for a ‘safe haven’ for the Gay comunity. From the inception a decision was made to keep J13 original and unique - not copying or immitating anything done before. Via trial and error it has succeeded. A small, intimate, technology friendly venue with heaters for winter and cool air conditioning for the hot summers. Plasma for the Playstation area and state of the art projector for bar area. The small dance floor is kitted with red and green motion lasers, strobes, smoke machine, active spotlights and pattered pentagram lighting. Another radical decision made at J13 was to have no permanent resident DJ! The DJ pool is made up of all who attend the club. You want to DJ? Then you can! Our policy is to allow the patrons to listen to the music they want - often DJs tend to play only what they like.
